To survive on seawater, Carlup possess specialized glands above their eyes that filter excess salt from their bloodstream. The excess sodium creates a salt buildup around their heads, which can be harvested by specialists.

Because it is very proud, it hates accepting food from people. Born from the high temperatures and pressures deep underground, it defends itself by firing beams from the jewel part of its body.
