Should one of Sandyrain's shovels fall off and get lost, it replaces it temporarily with a stick or leaf. This does not seem to affect its flying ability as a new shovel grows directly from the sand on its body.
It intimidates foes with the large eyelike patterns on its antennae. It likes the shovel on its head, so Sandyrain will get serious and fight any children who come to take it back.
