Nidokarp cannot help itself seeing small Pokémon being bullied, leaping to their defense. Though it is pitifully weak, the poison in its barbs is just enough to disorient a foe and let Nidokarp and other creatures slip away.
Its swimming muscles are weak, so it is easily washed away by currents. When it is with its friends or family, its barbs are tucked away to prevent injury.
