The spiky leaves that grow from Ferrofeon backsides protect their tail bulb from attacks. If the bulb is damaged too gravely, Ferrofeon may be unable to evolve.
Just like a plant, it uses photosynthesis. They stick their spikes into cave walls and absorb the minerals they find in the rock.
