Togemy are either too weak to fully break free of their eggs after having hatched or they keep part of their eggs to defend themselves with. They will, quite literally, attach themselves to those they grow fond of.

Its source of protection is its slimy, germ-laden mucous membrane. As its energy, it uses the feelings of compassion and pleasure exuded by people and Pokémon.
