Unlike Sandshrew, Sandseed migrate closer to coastal regions, preferring to take residence along hot sandy beaches. It often is seen as a nuisance since beach-goers stepping on its sharp iron barbs will leave their foot seriously injured.
They stick their spikes into cave walls and absorb the minerals they find in the rock. When it curls up in a ball, it can make any attack bounce off harmlessly.
