Wailras regularly release excess gas from their body, large bubbles of it floating up to the ocean surface and giving away where they are. If they need a quick escape, Wailras release an especially large bubble, clinging to it to float to safety.

A Wailras has parasitic tochukaso mushrooms growing on its back. It breathes through nostrils that it raises above the sea.
