Polinix's spirals extract oxygen from the water surrounding them, releasing waste gas back into the water as bubbles. They can blast these bubbles out forcefully from any part of their long, serpentine body.
There is a magnet in its brain that prevents an Polinix from losing direction while tunneling. Its body surface is always wet and slick with an oily fluid.
