Shelliper rests at the ocean bottom, taking flight once a week to locate other food sources. It carries large amounts of water inside it to spit at anything that tries to attack it while airborne.

It skims the tops of waves as it flies. At night, it burrows a hole in the seafloor with its broad tongue to make a place to sleep.
