Pearls made by Shellrow are difficult to distinguish from their eggs in both size and color. This confuses predators that would steal and eat them, and has surprised many pearl divers and collectors.
Its long neck and elongated beak are ideal for catching prey in soil or water. At night, it burrows a hole in the seafloor with its broad tongue to make a place to sleep.
