Remoper are abundant in large rivers, where they are an important food source for rare predators. Their affinity to mud keeps sediment flowing, though they are very sensitive to heavy metals and frequently get sick if there are mines upstream.

Remoper usually live in water but come out onto land seeking food occasionally. A Remoper uses its abdominal muscles to forcefully expel swallowed water, then shoot down flying prey.
