Paferno is an agile climber, scaling trees to reach tree hollows. It uses the noxious fumes produced by burning spores at the end of its tail to drive away any Pokémon that approach it as it feeds on the wood within the tree.

To intimidate attackers, it stretches the fire on its tail to make itself appear bigger. A Paferno has parasitic tochukaso mushrooms growing on its back.
