Metapede have conflicting instincts for how to defend themselves against predators, as they simultaneously want to retreat and stay still. Their sharp spines make staying put a viable option, but most predators fail to keep up if they roll away.
It is usually motionless, but when attacked, it rotates at high speed and then crashes into its opponent. Its shell is as hard as an iron slab.
