Lairow primarily preys on Diglett, slurping them up whole when they pop their head out of the ground. They then turn through the soil, seeking iron-rich veins that the Diglett has brought closer to the surface.

Its long neck and elongated beak are ideal for catching prey in soil or water. When two Lairow meet in the wild, they fight for territory by bashing into each other with their steel bodies.
