It spends much of its life shedding the constantly regrowing steel thorns and sharp scales, competing for space on its body. These sheddings are highly sought after by collectors and are commonly used in folk medicine.
There is a long-held belief that medicine made from its scales will heal even incurable illnesses. They attach themselves to cave ceilings, firing steel spikes at targets passing beneath them.
