So that they may survive harsh winters, Buperl will shuffle en masse into deep sections of tidal deltas, trapping warm water within their shells before burying themselves in mud. Buperl emerge when warm ocean currents return in Spring.

A Buperl slams its shell closed on prey to prevent escape. Over the winter, it closes its bud and endures the cold.
