An error in the material of its prism body has caused Necrogon-Z to refract all light passing through it instead of absorbing it. While this constantly starves it, the error also caused it to no longer need to absorb light in order to live.
Additional software was installed to make it a better Pokémon. Light is apparently the source of its energy.
