Magterra live in volcanically active areas, following lava flows to fuel their bodies. The sheer heat from their body burns away most of the vegetation around them, but the high nutrient content of the magma makes the soil they leave very fertile.
Small Pokémon occasionally gather on its unmoving back to begin building their nests. The shell on its back is made of hardened magma.
