Ho-wak appears before abandoned young Pokémon, having been drawn to their sadness, and helps them overcome the negative emotions. It forces its own young to hunt in search of it so that they may understand the plight of lost Pokémon.

A Ho-wak is the evolved form of a Cubone that has grown tough by overcoming the grief of losing its mother. Its feathers--which glow in seven colors depending on the angle at which they are struck by light--are thought to bring joy.
